Chad Daniell

 Memorial Scholarship

Last updated 04/29/10 04:34 PM

In March 2005, Chad Daniell, a former player with the Mansfield Hockey Association, died at the age of 16. In just 16 years, Chad left footprints on the hearts of everyone he met with his love of family, faith in God, academic excellence, athletic ability, and kindness toward all.

The annual award provides scholarship assistance to a Mansfield hockey player who is a graduating senior, and has been accepted at a two- or four-year college or university. Eligible applicants are evaluated on the basis of character, academic performance, leadership, and community service. Questions about the scholarship fund or scholarship application can be directed to secretary@mansfieldicehockey.org.

All donations to the Chad Daniell Memorial Scholarship fund are used to benefit Mansfield ISD college-bound seniors and are tax deductible.

Tanner Anthony, the son of Tom and Leslie Anthony and brother of former MHA player Tyler and current MHA player Conner Anthony was this year’s first-place winner of the Chad Daniel Memorial Scholarship. The $1000 scholarship, awarded each year to a graduating senior from Mansfield hockey, is given in loving memory of Chad Daniell by his mom and dad, Stacy and Dan Daniell, and brother Cole.

Tanner will attend McMurry University, a liberal arts university steeped in the United Methodist tradition located in Abilene, TX that stresses as its core values: Christian Faith as the foundation of life, Personal Relationships as the catalyst for life, Learning as the journey of life, Excellence as the goal of life, and Service as the measure of life.
Tanner will major in physics or business while at McMurry.

Zach Hopkins and Mathew Skupien also were awarded $500 scholarships toward their college education at the annual MHA awards banquet held in May. The two additional scholarships were made possible this year by unanimous vote of the MHA board of directors who wished to recognize and honor the 2007 senior graduating class of which Chad was so much a part.

Congratulations Tanner, Zach and Mathew. We are all very proud of the three of you.

Profits received from ‘The Cold War’ 2010

A check in the amount of $1770.00 has been deposited into the MHA Chad Daniell Memorial Scholarship account. The money was received as ½ of the profit from the fourth annual Jonathan Leslie/Chad Daniell Memorial Hockey Game played against Martin High School. Many thanks to all those who helped make this night such a wonderful success. See you next year!
